Community Grief Ritual
Aurora Healing Arts Center, Gainesville, Florida
February 18th, 2018 - 9am-7pm
Gathering together to open up, share, create ritual, and bear sacred witness
Grief is as natural an expression of humanness as joy and honors the losses of what we loved. Unexpressed grief can be the source of stress, illness, and disease. The process of grieving can bring balance to the body and create space for joy to recolonize the heart. Many cultures around the world hold grief rituals which utilize song, altars, sacred sharing, and movement. This community effort and witnessing creates a beautiful fabric of support for purging and healing the maladies of the spirit, and reinvigorating our essence with a renewed aliveness.
Throughout this day, we will share stories, songs, and space in both small and large groups to hold each other in the process of our personal transformations.
Josh Fox, a song-carrier, acupuncturist, teacher, and grief-tender from Asheville NC, has studied with and been trained by community elders Sobonfu Somé and Laurence Cole and will be facilitating this community grief ritual with additional support from musicians Searra Jade and life coach Jon Handelman. Fox has taken ancient teachings and infused inspiring teachings from his own practice of Chinese medicine, resulting in a truly unique and unifying experience, Together, these Awakening Harmony facilitators will gently and powerfully create a beautiful, safe space where our community members can reconnect to their authentic selves and be witnessed in the divinity of all their emotions.
